We thought it would be helpful to outline the steps that the Pets’n’Vets Family has taken in response to the increased Coronavirus challenge.
As a family of RCVS Accredited Veterinary Practices, we already have numerous and robust hygiene policies in place. In light of the updated advice coming from the NHS and Scottish Government however, we have reviewed these policies and added some additional precautionary measures.
This blog outlines the practical steps The Pes’n’Vets Family has taken to manage the challenges made by COVID-19, enabling us to continue to provide veterinary care, whilst both personally and collectively doing our bit to slow the likely spread and impact of Coronavirus.
Further updates will occur depending on how the virus affects Glasgow and the surrounding areas.
All staff have been advised of the importance of hand washing, with hot water and soap regularly – i.e. after client interactions, after moving to a new work space, after handling pets, etc. Our staff have access to hand sanitisers, and we would ask that you also make use of these when visiting the practice.
All staff have been advised to use a tissue or inner elbow (if tissue is not available) to catch any coughs or sneezes, and dispose of the tissue correctly and wash/sanitise your hands immediately. If you are visiting any of our practices, tissues will be available in reception areas as well as consulting rooms. A suitable bin will also be available in each reception area.
We have instigated increased cleaning frequency of all ‘high risk’ surfaces, such as door handles, reception desks and keyboards/phones. At the Roundhouse Hospital this involves a staff member having this role continually: 100% of the working day. At all ‘Family’ branches, there is also an enhanced and increased cleaning regime based on the Scottish Government and NHS advice.
We have revised how we clean and store the crockery, cutlery and food in the staffroom. We’ve loved, and shared every cake we’ve ever been given over the years, but for now we will not be sharing open food.
We are asking all clients who visit the practice to please use the hand sanitisers provided, on entering the practice and leaving the consulting room.
Our vets may ask you to step back from the consulting table and we are more likely to take your pet into our prep area to carry out an examination - please do not be offended!
In addition to our internal policies we are also going to ask for your help. Before coming to the practice, please let us know if you are feeling unwell or if you have been in contact with someone or are yourself self-isolating.
We have been developing a Client Communication Platform App – PetsApp - over the last few months, and are in a position to launch this service early next week (w/b the 16th of March). All registered clients will be sent an SMS message over the following 10 days, which will link to App Stores enabling you to download PetsApp. We would strongly advise that you do this.
While still being available by telephone, PetsApp will enable us to help those pet owners who are unable to attend the practice in person, and will further support our continued provision of veterinary care over the new few weeks. This service will enable you to:
