We are super excited to have launched Totally Grad!, Scotland’s own independent veterinary graduate programme! The programme aims to provide a platform for new graduates to apply the skills they've learnt at university and allow them to excel in their Veterinary career.
Designed to attract the best and brightest new graduates, our Totally Grad! programme provides an innovative approach to new graduate training in Scotland with a well-structured and heavily supported first year in practice including hands-on surgical training and friendly seminars from Advanced Veterinary Practitioners at our award-winning Roundhouse Veterinary Hospital in Glasgow.
Oliver Jackson, one of our Partners, said: “We are well aware that many larger veterinary entities run new graduate programmes and we are proud to say that Totally Grad! offers great advantages that come with our independent structure.
“Independent practice can offer a rewarding working environment for new graduates – particularly progressive practices such as ours. We can offer new graduates not only the close-knit, friendly, helpful, stable, first-opinion experience, but also provide opportunities for career growth and development.
“We have the facility for graduates to explore their particular areas of interest. Indeed, in our practice it is possible for a new graduate to change our way of working – the decision-makers are available and listening. We now have many vets working with us who have come through the practice from our graduate system and who have gone on to help shape our practice.
“The success of our Laparoscopic and Cardiology clinics can be attributed to those vets, as can various other client service initiatives and ways of working. New blood brings new ideas and we welcome that.”
Support is delivered through an integrated mentor system, peer-to-peer learning opportunities and regular case reviews, with the programme designed to integrate with, and augment, the PDP requirements, all in a clinically-driven setting free from financial targets.
Totally Grad! sees new graduates undertake advanced training and extra practice on surgery, consultations and general practice to accelerate their skills and confidence as well as a digest of bespoke seminars aimed specifically at life in practice and optimising clinical outcomes and confidence.
Graduates will spend 1 in every 3 weeks shadowing at the Roundhouse Veterinary Hospital, working as part of the team on more complex cases and work ups, including: ECC; ultrasonography; x-rays; CT/MRI; advanced dentistry and dental imaging; laparoscopic surgery; orthopaedics and so much more!
